Vera for CoMo City Council

Candidate for Columbia City Council, Ward 2

I am running for City Council because I love Columbia. I met my husband here. I started a family here. I found my community here. I believe that my experience in public service, knowledge of Columbia, and dedication to community involvement can help make Columbia a truly safe place for everyone.

A woman with red hair and green glasses stands in front of a line of trees. She is wearing a blue button up dress with pearl earrings and is smiling at the camera.

Through my work on the City Council, I hope to increase bus lines and frequency to the second ward, improve walk-ability and bike-ability throughout the community, and increase access to paratransit for our disabled community members. I hope to ensure community policing in our neighborhoods, coupled with mental health supports and addiction treatment for our unhoused populations.

I see all of these as labor issues; in order to have excellent city services, we must be a competitive employer that works in cooperation with our city unions. Columbia, Missouri is a home and destination for a progressive, diverse community, and I believe that the city must work to ensure through policy that all members of the community continue to feel welcome and safe here.
